Alkem Launches New Innohaler For Asthma And COPD Patients

Alkem laboratories entered the core inhalation therapeutics market with introduction of its new DPI device designed for drug delivery in patients suffering from lung disorders.

Researchers at Alkem laboratories have developed a new device for patients suffering from Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). They have launched a Dry Powder Inhaler, a DPI device, which is considered to be one of the most powerful inhaler for delivering drugs in patients. This device was launched on the occasion of World Asthma day on 03 May, 2022.

Lungs are one of the most delicate and vulnerable organs in our body and they are exposed to a wide number of diseases. According to World Health Organization (WHO), Asthma has affected around 300 million people worldwide and COPD is a major cause of mortality and chronic morbidity. It is considered to be the fourth leading cause of death in the world. These diseases are characterized by obstruction of lung airflow, which interferes with breathing.

Less than one crore patients have access to the proper lung care out of nine crore patients affected with OADs in India. With the help of this device Alkem is trying to fill in the accessibility gap in the treatment of Asthma in India. The pharmaceutical company will enter the core inhalation therapeutics market with this device. Researchers believe that this device will help in delivering the drug directly to the patient’s lungs, along with that it will also increase patient adherence and awareness program.

The Managing Director of Alkem Laboratories Ltd, Sandeep Singh spoke about this innovative lead. Singh said that this DPI device will play a major role in propagating precise awareness and knowledge amongst patients. The firm is fulfilling their promise of delivering the right care to patients deprived from proper lung care facilities.
