Early Data Show Promising Results For The Monkeypox Vaccine

The organization claimed that those who were given a single dosage of the vaccine were far less likely to get the infection than people who did not, although the methodology had significant flaws.

According to a study released on Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that provided a brief glimpse of the monkeypox vaccine's effectiveness, Americans who were given a single dose of the vaccine were significantly less inclined to contract the virus over the summer compared to those who did not.

The results, which were gathered from 32 states between the end of July and the beginning of September, were some of the first government statistics to offer an indication of how well the Jynneos vaccine, the main injection being used to address the monkeypox outbreak, protects infections. According to the data, those who had not gotten a vaccination were 14 times more likely to get the disease than those who had.

At a White House briefing, Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky, director of the C.D.C., stated that "this fresh information fresh information give us a stage of guarded optimism which the vaccine is working as designed" and added that "even one dose of the monkeypox vaccine provides at least some preliminary safeguarding against infection."

The new approach "encourages vaccination providers to reduce risk evaluations of those seeking the immunization." "Fear of exposing sexual orientation or gender identity must not be a deterrent to immunization," said Demetre Daskalakis, a monkeypox expert for the White House.

Daskalakis said anyone who may be at current or future risk is now eligible, including homosexual, bisexual, and other males who have sex with men; transgender or gender diverse persons who have had more than one sex partner in the past six months; those who had intercourse in a location with a greater risk of monkeypox; or those who have had a sexually transmitted virus identified within the previous six months.

According to Daskalakis, the vaccination program also includes commercial sex workers and partners of at-risk individuals.
