FlipKart to bear costs of COVID-19 inoculation for its employees

On March 09, 2021, Flipkart and Myntra announced to cover the vaccinations costs of every employee working for the E-commerce major.

The Indian e-commerce company, FlipKart and its fashion e-commerce subsidiary, Myntra, treated their employees with a glad tiding by taking liability of their COVID-19 vaccination expenses. Krishna Raghavan, the Chief People Officer of FlipKart, had sent an e-mail to all employees of Flipkart and Myntra revealing the FlipKart Group’s decision to bear 100 percent inoculation costs of all employees across the company and its subsidiary. Raghavan further continued that the company awaits the new phase of the vaccination drive, which is expected to cover all citizens along with the present priority organizations in the country, although there is no official disclosure on the next phase from the government. The regulatory authorities of India have approved only two vaccines as of yet, which are Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and the other being Oxford & AstraZeneca’s Covi-shield for combating the transmission of COVID-19 in the country.

The employees of the e-commerce company will have the choice of compensation of vaccination charges or receive free vaccination at the company’s partnering hospitals. Furthermore, the employees are permitted to take part in the upcoming vaccination drives organized by the company across various outlets. The whole process of participating in the vaccination drive is said to be voluntary for all employees, although, the company has insisted its employees to contemplate its several advantages. Those advantages include the leave for the day on which an employee is vaccinated and a special leave for those employees who are witnessing side-effects of vaccination.

Following the likes of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Reliance, Accenture, Infosys, and the national lender - State Bank of India (SBI), the FlipKart in the new major enterprise in the country to embrace this initiative.
