Scientist have found similarity how brain affects due Covid-19 and dementia disease. The relaxing news is it is can be treated and cured.
A research team from University of Queensland had conducted a study which has identified the potential risk in future of neurodegenerative conditions in Covid suffered patients.
The continued study over it was published in Nature’s Molecular Psychiatry, had given a relief statement that though the risk exist the treatment is possible.
Scientist have discovered that the inflammatory reaction in the brain caused by Covid-19 is similar to that of Parkinson’s disease.
Professor Woodruff who is the lead author of this study said the study has been made on the effect of the coronavirus on the microglia which are brain immune cells. The team lab generated microglia and infected the it with SARS-CoV-2. The infected microglia activated the pathway similar to inflammasomes, first line immune system receptors that induce inflammation in response to infectious and molecules derived from host protein, host protein of Parkinson and Alzheimer disease.
The co-author of the study Dr Albornoz Balmaceda stated that the inflammasomes pathway is a kind of silent killer. It continually kills off neurons and the symptoms aren’t visible outward for many years. This is the reason why people who had Covid are vulnerable for developing neurology similar to Parkinson disease.
According to Professor Woodruff the condition would be worsening for patients of Parkinson if caught infection of Covid-19.
Professor Tent Woodruff and Dr Eduardo Albornoz Balmaceda from UQs School of Biomedical Sciences and the School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences virologists, led an UQ team. Th team successfully found the treatment for the aroused concern. The inflammatory pathways triggered by Covid-1 was successfully treated with the inhibitory medication created by the UQ researchers and is currently being tested clinically with Parkinson’s patients. However, there’s still a need for research.
