Gene Knockout Model to cure Colorectal Adenocarcinoma

In a recent study by a group of researchers, indicates the mechanism about the involvement of the fat rich components in the occurrence of the disease.

Colon cancer or colorectal cancer, is one of the most common cancer with a worst affected rate. It occurs, due to an abnormal growth of cell in the colon or in the rectum area. Colon characterizes the last area of the large intestine, which is almost 5 feet long, and connect it to anus. Colorectal Adenocarcinoma starts with the formation of a tissue like outgrowth named as polyp, which develops cancerous properties during its progression of growth. This cancer is curable only if it is developed in an early stage of its progression.

One of the common cause of colon cancer as depicted by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, is the over exposure to saturated fat compounds like red meat. Results suggests that proper food habits, and reduction in the red meat consumption can reduce the chances of occurrence of this disease. Other conditions that may lead to Colorectal Adenocarcinoma is for individual who has a familiar history of inflammatory bowel disease, type 2 diabetes and also individual with smoking habits.

After the digestion of the food, in the intestinal portion, the broken down food particles react with the stem cell present in the intestinal cellular lining. These intestinal stem cells, are thought to be the stimulatory factor, which might start the tumor formation process. The researcher’s further came in contact with another receptor, peroxisome proliferator activated receptors (or PPARs) that might stimulate this tumorigenesis process. PPARs exists in 3 structural forms, delta, alpha and the last one as gamma.
