Dr. Peter Hotez is not concerned about the allergic reactions that happened due to the Pfizer vaccine and recommends Americans to take the shot.
All the prominent medical research labs around the world are on a mission to find out the perfect vaccine which will protect people against the coronavirus. Dr. Peter Hotez, a Houston based COVID-19 vaccine expert and the Dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, gives his approval to the vaccine produced by Pfizer and BioNTech, even when the vaccine resulted in two allergic reactions. According to him, this should be of minimal concern. Till now the Pfizer vaccine was been 95% effective and protects both genders equally, irrespective of their caste, religion and ethnicity. People who are 16 years or older are safe to take the vaccine. However, in the U.K. two health workers suffered some allergic reactions on the first day of taking the vaccine and had to take their EpiPen.
After this incident, a warning was issued for people with allergic reactions to retreat from taking the shot, till further notice by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Hotez wants the FDA to use a more specific allergy warning for the Americans. According to him, more than 50 million people living in America suffer due to allergies. The main thing that Hotez worries about this warning, is that the warning can plant an unnecessary fear in the hearts of the people.
Thousands of Americans have already been administered the Pfizer vaccine shots which showed regular flu-like side effects, for example, pain at the injected place, fever, muscle pain, fatigue, and headaches. Hotez states that these symptoms will disappear in one or two days. Dr. Hotez recommends Americans with allergies to get the Pfizer vaccine after consulting a physician.
