Pepsi Launches Its Virtual Restaurant for Food Delivery, 'Pep's Place'

Pepsi, on Monday May 3, launched its new virtual restaurant Pep's Place that gives its customers a chance to pick amongst their favorite beverages and see suggestions for best food pairings to order and deliver. The company, in its press release, said that the brand is kicking off its campaign 'Better with Pepsi' including 8 commercials to promote this new venture.

Pep's place is available to customers on PepsPlaceRestaurant.com and on food-delivery platforms such as GrubHub and DoorDash for next one month. The company is trying to provide a unique experience to the customers by popularizing ghost kitchens and virtual restaurants. A Spanish commercial is also included in the campaign celebrating the role of food to bring people together. Their unique experience of 'beverage first' reverses the practice of first ordering the food and then thinking about the drinks. With this approach, the brand is enabled to showcase their full line of products including the ones that are launched recently.

Pepsi to offer cola along with food delivery is the first time ever. The menu comprises foods such as ribs and burgers along with snacks such as mac and cheese, chips and broccoli. Owing to this trend accelerated because of the pandemic, ghost kitchens are expected to reach a market of US$ 1 trillion globally, states Pepsi. The brand partnered with ViacomCBS and produced a show 'Match Me If You Can' whose plot was that mango flavored pepsi makes a "perfect match". Pepsi appears to be anticipating through Pep's Place that even after rising vaccination rates and dining places opening, people will prefer to order food online. Other brands including restaurant chains such as Applebee's and Chili's parent Brinker International have shifted to virtual restaurants to capture the attention of food lovers.
