Porsche Launches Two Mid-engine Sportscars in India

Both the 718 Spyder and the 718 Cayman GT4 join the standard 718 models (line-up) that are currently on sale in the Indian car market.

Porsche, a German sportscar manufacturer has launched two sportscars, the 718 Spyder and the 718 Cayman GT4, in India at US$ 211667.48 (Rs 1.59 crore) and US$ 216992.45 (Rs 1.59 crore, ex-showroom). Both the 718 Spyder and the 718 Cayman GT4 feature the same chassis designed by the company’s GT division. Moreover, both get race-inspired struts and springs at their rear and front axles, as well as Porsche’s Active Suspension Management (PASM), an electronic damping system. It is specifically designed for racetrack use.

The company has also tweaked the Porsche Stability Management to be less obtrusive, which helps to stabilize the vehicle in hazardous road scenarios. Both the 718 Spyder and the 718 Cayman GT4 are equipped with the naturally aspirated, 4.0-liter flat-six engine that is good for 420 hp of power and 420 Nm of peak torque. Both units are paired with a six-speed manual transmission, no PDK (Porsche Doppel Kupplungs), and completes the 0 to 60 miles (0 to 100kph) sprint in 4.4 seconds. The 718 Spyder has a top speed of 301 kph and the 718 Cayman GT4 has a top speed of 303 kph.

The Spyder and the Cayman’s cabins are not far from the standard 718. The Cayman GT4 features fabric body-colored seat belts, door-pulls instead of traditional handles, and the removal of the infotainment system, which can be reinstalled with no additional cost. On the other hand, the Spyder seems to retain its infotainment system and standard door handles. Moreover, the performance twins have no direct rivals in India. Both join the standard 718 models (line-up) that are currently on sale in the Indian car market and are priced from US$ 114439.33, for the Cayman and US$ 119765.19, for the Boxster (ex-showroom, India). In India, the Porsche 718 range rivals the BMW Z4 and the Jaguar F-type.
