Sony is targeting studios and businesses with its new Crystal LED display modules

At CES 2012, Sony unveiled its first Crystal LED display, a 55-inch model that is set to offer many OLED benefits.

In 2019, Sony made the technology available to the customers. With large price tags that come with a large screen size and commercial applications remain the most sought after technology. That continues with the release of new versions of the Sony Crystal. Sony’s Crystal LED is a transparent technology, with micro LED limits, where the pixels used to produce images are made with the arrangement of small LEDs. However, each pixel is self-illuminated and can be turned off like OLED, the technology is capable of high contrast, high brightness, and wide viewing angles.

However, with the new C-series model, Sony is aiming for "corporate lobbies, boardrooms, showrooms, galleries, libraries, and other public spaces," although the new B-series model is aiming for "sunlit corporate lobbies, production backdrops and digital sets" like those used in The Mandalorian. The new ones, unlike previous versions, provide accessibility from the front, making servicing and installation simpler. Both models use the latest X1 for Crystal LED processor, which effectively integrates the picture processing capabilities of Sony's high-end LCD and OLED TVs with the LED control technology of its Crystal LED component.

Each 1.26-mm-pixel-pitch module has a resolution of 480 x 270, while the 1.58-mm-pixel-pitch modules have a resolution of 384 x 216. Both measure the bezel without 23.94 x 13.46 2.99 (60.8 x) 34.2 x 7.6 cm), providing a display size of around 27.5 inches per sequence for each module.   Therefore, for a 110-inch Full HD display of 1.26 mm pixel pitch, a 4x4 grid of 16 modules measuring 8 x 4.4 feet (2.4 x 1.4 m) will be needed. If after 4K resolution, consumers will need 64 modules on a display that can measure 220 inches, or 18.3 ft. (5.5 m) respectively. Sony says the new C-series and B-series Crystal LEDs should be available in the summer of 2021, and will release a video showing CES 2021.
